Shockwave Therapy (EPAT)

What is shockwave therapy

A non-invasive modern and highly effective treatment method: high-energy sound waves are introduced into painful areas of the body. EPAT technology (also known as ESWT) accelerates the healing process by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue.

Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area for short periods of time, penetrating tissue and stimulating cells that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.

How can shockwave therapy help

Shockwave can help relieve pain in any joint in the body, including:

  • shoulders

  • hips

  • knees

  • ankles

  • elbows

  • wrists

It is appropriate for damage in the ligaments, tendons, muscles, and tissues and doesn’t require any anesthesia and causes no scarring, downtime, or risk of infection. This therapy often reduces chronic pain from old injuries and prior surgeries. In some cases, it may offer a more conservative option to help patients avoid risky surgery, stem cell therapy, cortisone shots, and medication.

What to expect during your shockwave treatment

Dr. Rothman will perform a thorough assessment and examination. An accurate diagnosis is important for a properly customized treatment. For optimal results, three to five sessions are recommended. Each session takes 5-10 minutes.

During treatment, you may feel minor discomfort, however, afterwards, most patients feel immediate relief from their painful symptoms. If the intensity becomes too uncomfortable for you, please let your chiropractor know so that it can be adjusted.
